Vanessa Ferguson: From Greensboro to “The Voice”
She has sung with the legendary Gladys Knight. She has been coached by Grammy Award winner Alicia Keys. Greensboro singer-songwriter Vanessa Ferguson will take us behind the scenes of those experiences and more when she speaks at our next meeting on Wednesday, Aug. 14.
Vanessa gained national attention when she appeared on Season 12 of the NBC singing competition, “The Voice,” making it to the top eight out of 48 contestants. She received plenty of compliments from celebrity judges Keys, Gwen Stefani, Blake Shelton and Adam Levine. And her career has continued since then.
Classically trained and hailing from Brooklyn, N.Y., Vanessa focuses her singing career on R&B, hip-hop, pop, electronic dance music and rock. She began taking piano lessons at age 5, and composed her first song at age 14. When the family moved to Greensboro in 1997, Vanessa became a member of several singing groups and then formed her own band. In 2011, she moved to China and performed for six months at a famous club. She then began touring with B.B. King’s Blues Club All-Star Band.
Find out how her performance with Gladys Knight almost didn’t happen. Learn about her latest projects. And Vanessa said she’ll sing for us, too!
