Greensboro’s Women’s Professional Forum Foundation Salutes International Day of the Girl this Thursday October 11
Greensboro, NC (October 10, 2018) In 2011, as the result of youth advocacy around the world, the United Nations declared October 11 as the International Day of the Girl Child. Its mission is “to help galvanize worldwide enthusiasm for goals to better girls’ lives, providing an opportunity for them to show leadership and reach their full potential.” In Guilford County, that mission is at the core of the Women’s Professional Forum Foundation’s (WPFF) unique program for middle school girls. Girls Leadership Edge (GLE) was inspired by the WPF Foundation’s 25+ years of making grants to empower girls and women. Knowing first-hand the challenges of middle school girls in finding their voice, the Foundation created and financed GLE to help them identify and nurture the leader within. Since launching GLE in 2016, more than 140 girls age 13 to 15 in Guilford County have been through the program which builds courage, compassion and confidence.
Sue Kennedy, the founder of Girls Leadership Edge, said, “ It has never been more critical for us to recognize how important girls and young women are to the future of our society, institutions and culture. Putting them on the path to leadership is what we need to be doing right now.”
Women’s Professional Forum Foundation has funded the training and certification of 20 facilitators to deliver the Girls Leadership Edge program in Guilford County. For more information visit https://wpforum.org/interested-in-girls-leadership-edge/
